The Best Postcard Maker for Direct Mail Marketing
It’s always a joy when sorting through your routine pile of bills that you find a surprise piece of mail that you didn’t expect. In fact, 56% of Americans consider it a real joy to receive mail, with 95% of Millennials saying that they enjoy physical mail. Postcards can be particularly exciting, since you don’t have to rip open any envelopes, they’re image-based, made to be eye-catching, and often contain discounts or otherwise valuable information for the consumer. And even with the influx of digital media over the years, businesses are finding that adding direct mail like postcards to their marketing mix has been a proven way to increase business than when simply using digital alternatives. Whoever thought snail mail would be the way of the future?
If you’re looking to add postcards to your marketing mix, the vast library of Postcard templates in BeFunky’s Graphic Designer is the perfect solution! No matter what kind of business or type of promotion you’re running, we’ve got the perfect Postcard template for you to use as a design guide. They’re pre-designed by professionals, perfectly sized, and so easy to customize. Snail mail has never been easier!
When to Send Postcards
If you are wondering if your business is a candidate for this type of marketing, it most likely is. Whether you are a real estate agent, a local shop or restaurant, or even a non-profit organization, direct mail has proven to be a lucrative option for a variety of businesses. Here are a few different scenarios to inspire your next postcard promotion:
To Advertise Events
Postcards are the perfect way to advertise for an event you are hosting. Whether you are wanting to inform people of a grand opening, invite locals to an art show, or you want to host a small holiday or craft market, direct mail is a great option when trying to inform your neighbors and getting them involved in your business.
Since Postcards are so visual and to-the-point, they’re the perfect tangible reminder of your event. Totally easy for the recipient to stick to the refrigerator and add the date to their calendar.
To Grow your Real Estate Business
There are several types of postcard templates for realtors in BeFunky’s Designer: Open House, Looking for an Agent, Just Sold, and Just Listed. If you are needing an extra push in certain neighborhoods, this is a great way to boost your business and get on people’s radar.
With direct mail, Real Estate Agents can target specific areas of the city more directly. It’s much easier to create awareness of a new property on the market or introduce yourself to the neighborhood with a postcard than to rely on digital media.
To Communicate Appointment Reminders
Sending out physical appointment reminders can be very helpful when people are inundated with hundreds of digital notifications each week. If you are looking to send out annual or semi-annual reminders, BeFunky has the perfect templates to use that make creating these a breeze.
Again, the tangibility of a postcard is key for this kind of information, especially since it stands out visually. Push notifications are helpful in addition, but since there’s no visual distinction or tangibility, adding a postcard to the appointment reminder mix is always a good idea for businesses in the healthcare or service industries.
To Offer Specials & Discounts
Sending out special offers to people who are in close physical proximity to your business increases the likelihood that they will utilize your discounts. It’s much easier to target a neighborhood or specific area of the city with a postcard than it is with digital marketing, which makes promotion with a postcard much more effective!
Whether you offer a free birthday gift or a discount on your goods and services, your generosity as a business owner will be remembered. It’s a great way to increase brand recognition and keep people coming back to your business!
To Say Thank You
Saying thank you goes a long way, especially when it is personalized. Slowing down long enough to write a note of appreciation puts your business in the best light and increases brand awareness. Just think about what you can thank your customers for and use one of our Thank You Postcard templates to spread the love!
Whatever type of postcard you’re thinking about sending, we’ve got the perfect design templates (front and back!) to get you started. We’ll show you how to customize them to best suit your business below!
How to Design a Postcard for your Business
To get started with your postcard design, head to BeFunky’s Graphic Designer and click the Search Templates button in the Templates tab. This will bring up the Template Library, where you can browse hundreds of design templates to use! For this tutorial, scroll down to the Business Marketing section and select Postcards.
Notice that you’ll see templates for both the front and the back of the postcard, since they’re two-sided. We’ll start by designing the front before moving on to the back. You can choose from the assortment of pre-designed postcards based on the design you like or simply from the nature of your marketing campaign. When you find the front postcard template that you love, click on it and select Use This Template.
With your marketing promotion or goal in mind, start by adjusting the text to fit your unique campaign. Double-click on any textbox in the template to type something new, then use the Text Properties toolbar that appears to change the font, colors, letter spacing, and so much more! Since postcards are meant to be taken in at a glance, try to keep the text on the front minimal and to-the-point.
Next, if there’s an image on your design template, you’ll want to swap it out with something more relevant to your business. To do so, select the image and click the Replace button in the Image Properties menu that appears. This will allow you to replace the image with one stored on your Computer.
If you’d rather use a stock image, you’re in luck! BeFunky has over a million free stock photos for you to choose from, right from within the web app. Just click on the Image Manager tab (the top icon) in the main menu on the left, then choose the Search Stock Images button. You’ll then be able to browse and instantly upload stock images from Pexels, Pixabay, and Unsplash.
To add any additional graphics or icons to your postcard design, click on the Graphics tab (the heart icon) in the main menu on the left. Here, you can click the Search Graphics button to search hundreds of vector graphics to use in your project. Since this postcard design is for a dentist, we searched “Dentist” in the Graphic Library to find some perfectly relevant design elements. Type in whichever search term that best suits your business, then click on all the graphics you’d like to use in your project.
When you close out of the Graphic Library, they’ll be waiting for you in the Your Graphics section of the Graphics tab, ready for you to add and customize!
Once the front of your postcard looks perfect, click the Save button at the top of the screen. To save it in the best print resolution, choose the Computer option and select PDF as your format. There are two choices under Quality, and for this printable project, it’s important that you choose the Print option. This way, your postcard will be saved in the best possible resolution for printing!
You’ll also want to choose the Save As Project option, which saves your work in editable format just in case you need to come back and tweak the design, fix a typo, or otherwise continue working on your project without having to start over from scratch. Total time saver!
Once you’ve completed the beginning of your postcard and saved it as a PDF and as an editable Project, head back to the Templates tab in the left-hand menu and click Search Templates once again. Find the template for the back of the postcard design you chose, then load it onto the canvas to begin customizing it.
Double-click any text boxes to type your company’s information. You can add any additional textboxes by clicking on the Text tab in the main menu on the left and clicking the Add Text button, then typing into the textbox that appears. You’ll want to make sure you adjust all of the colors to match the front of the postcard, and add in any graphic elements to tie in the front of the postcard with the back.
Once you’re finished with the back of the postcard, head back to the Save button at the top of the screen and save the file to your Computer as a Print Quality PDF. Then, click the Save As Project option to create an editable version. This way, you can reuse and adjust it for years to come!
